Find the Right Interior Designer For You
Taking on a home improvement project can be intimidating and costly so why not take that extra step and hire an interior design professional to give your house the “Wow” factor it deserves?
- Get referrals from family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. Realtors are also a good resource.
- Once you have your list, check them out online. Most designers will have a website. Check out there photo galleries. Do you like what the designer is doing?
- Does the designer fit your project? Some designers specialize in certain areas such as renovation, new construction and commercial.
Ask neighbors who have worked on similar projects what they spent. Ask yourself if you are pricing yourself out of the neighborhood. Helpful resources such as Remodeling magazine’s annual “Cost vs. Value” report provides insightful costs on projects throughout the home.
Understand Billing Methods
Interior designers frequently charge an hourly rate plus a markup for handling the purchase of furnishings and materials. Some simply bill by the hour. Others may charge a flat rate per project. On many occasions designers will require a retainer if purchasing products on your behalf.
Since designers are in the industry, they are a good referral source for contractors, painters, electricians, etc. Rely on their “toolbox”.
